To create a common thread and unify what we are doing and may wish to do the Gasworks staff and board have undertaken a review of all levels of its operations beginning with a focus on its artistic policy. We have done this to make clear the aspiration that underlies arts programming at Gasworks and create a framework on which to build consistency and quality in both process and product.

To bring people together through arts and non-arts experiences at Gasworks to foster participation, sharing and ownership of Gasworks. |

To produce and host events and programs which celebrate and encourage inclusion and diversity. |

To celebrate local identity and aspiration through participation and
interaction with the arts. |

To enrich people through the arts by engaging, inspiring and creating
dialogue. |

To develop partnerships with other organizations in pursuit of these objectives including the extension of the program beyond the park’s boundaries. |

These are the half dozen questions Gasworks staff will ask themselves to evaluate a program, activity or event to ensure it fits. Yes, to a minimum of four questions is required. |

Summary:
Gasworks policy aims to create ownership and participation through an open approach to the development of arts. Underlying the policy is an attitude, a style, rather than a form, one that can create projects in any art form and give a participative and positive quality to them. Gasworks has and will continue to hold a responsibility for mainstream arts practice. In the future Gasworks theatres and studios may house artists working on projects with outcomes that foster and create relationships, but we will continue to have a role in providing a place for established and emerging artists to produce quality mainstream work.
