blue door gallery specialises in contemporary Indigenous art representing a wide selection of artists from the Central and Western Deserts of the Northern Territory. The gallery also has a select range of fine Australian art, and actively promotes local and emerging talent in both paint and sculpture. Indeed, at Blue Door Gallery’s new space in the Gatehouse Building at Gasworks, the focus is on an artist-in-residence model. Artists will have works on permanent display and will be painting on a daily basis in the gallery.
The space also has a community focus: a range of arts-based programs and activities will be run, aimed at children and the disadvantaged, amongst others. The double-storey heritage listed building is also a perfect venue for functions and business seminars.
blue door gallery’s other space is a two level building at 189 Park Street, South Melbourne. Hundreds of pieces of quality Indigenous art from emerging and investment artists are in the stockroom, and often famous artists spend time in residence painting. Well known indigenous artist from Mt. Allen, NT, Maureen Hudson Nampitjinpa will be painting in the gallery throughout August and September 2008.
