Tricia Sabey

VISUAL ARTS STUDIO

Tricia’s work reflects her interest in the abstract features of land, sea, sky and urban architectural landscapes.  She focuses on the patterning features of colour, form, texture, line and space. She likes to photograph scenes and use the camera to distort the image into more abstracted forms which she then transforms into her artworks. She paints in oil on recycled plywood and paper. The individual works are then assembled into larger compositions.

Tricia has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows at galleries in Melbourne including Gasworks. In 2005 she won the Two Dimensional award at the Williamstown Contemporary Art Exhibition held in The Substation.

She has a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education and completed one year of a Master of Fine Arts at Monash University. Tricia majored in Art History and taught for 25 years at Victoria University. Her work is in private collections in Australia, the U.k. Germany and the Netherlands.

Gasworks Arts Park has provided an enriching environment for my artistic development. I love to walk through the grounds and savour the open space, the aroma of the native trees and plants, and the melodic singing of the numerous birds. It is a transitioning space from a busy life into the calm of my studio. It also provides many opportunities to connect with the wider community on a daily basis and the monthly Farmers’ Market. I also appreciate the very supportive and warm collegiate atmosphere amongst the other resident artists.  And I am very grateful for the generous support of the administration staff of Gasworks Arts Park.
