Gasworks Theatre

The Gasworks Theatre is a black box performance space with a flat, sprung floor and a raked seating bank. With the addition of rows on the floor, the standard capacity for most theatre shows is 158. The theatre can also accommodate cabaret-style seating for up to 50 patrons, around 10 tables, situated in front of the seating bank (total audience numbers remain at 192 for this set up). The theatre can fit up to 240 seats for other types of events, such as conferences, that can utilise a reduced stage space.

The theatre is wheelchair accessible and fully air-conditioned.

There is an extensive stock of lighting and sound equipment available to hirers of the space.

Dressing room facilities are also available, and the smaller Studio Theatre can be hired as additional dressing room space, or as a green room. The Studio Theatre and Garden Studio can be hired for rehearsals.

During Melbourne’s major festivals (including the Midsumma Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Melbourne Fringe Festival), Gasworks partners with theatre hirers to produce a festival season.

Performing Arts Hire Rates:
Weekly (Sun to Sat) $4,400 incl GST
Daily (Sun to Thurs) $1,200 incl GST
Daily (Fri & Sat) $2,000 incl GST

Please note, the above prices are for the venue hire only and do not include staffing costs or other additional costs. A Gasworks technician is required on-site for the duration for your hire in this theatre.
