Main theatre
The Gasworks Theatre is a flexible black box performance space with a raked seating bank for up to 244 patrons. It is wheelchair accessible, air-conditioned, and equipped with extensive lighting and sound equipment. Dressing room facilities and additional rehearsal spaces are available, making it ideal for various events and festival seasons. For more intimate, cabaret-style events, it can accommodate up to 50 patrons around 10 tables in front of the seating bank, maintaining a total audience capacity of 192.

*Multi-Day Rate is in reference to any booking that is 3 / 4 + days up to 7 days. If you require a certain number of days (i.e. 7 days) you will need to specify this upon booking.
Default Performance Times: Matinees 1.30pm, evenings 7.30pm
The hire of the Main theatre includes the use of two dressing rooms (capacity 15 cast)
Additional hire of the Studio Theatre as Green Room/Dressing Room is an additional $150-$550 (+ Main theatre Hire cost) subject to availability
Staffing & Equipment
Staffing requirements apply to all venue hires and may incur additional costs. A Gasworks technician must be present whenever technical equipment or lighting is used, when haze is operated, or when the venue is accessed outside Gasworks office hours (9:00am–4:30pm). Front of House staff are required for all performances, shows, and public events, with staffing levels determined by the venue being used. Hirers may supply their own ushers where required, in addition to Gasworks Front of House staff. . Staffing is charged at current venue rates and subject to minimum call times. Penalty rates apply for work undertaken on Sundays, Public Holidays, and between 12:00am–7:00am. Standard technical equipment included in the venue hire is outlined in the venue’s Technical Specifications, with some items available for an additional fee. Bookings are confirmed upon payment of a deposit, with 50% required for ticketed events and 100% required for non-ticketed events.
Accessibility is a priority at Gasworks Theatre, with full wheelchair access and air-conditioning to ensure comfort for all guests. Hirers can take advantage of an extensive stock of lighting and sound equipment, enhancing the professional quality of any performance or event. The theatre also provides dressing room facilities, with the option to hire the smaller Studio Theatre as additional dressing room space or as a green room. Additionally, the Studio Theatre and Garden Studio are available for rehearsals. Gasworks Theatre is proud to partner with theatre hirers during Melbourne’s major festivals, including the Midsumma Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and the Melbourne Fringe Festival, to produce exciting festival seasons.
