Gasworks Script Lab 2025
Showcase Nights
6:30 - 8:30 pm
Watch as the new plays written by talented playwrights in GASWORKS SCRIPT LAB 2025 are brought to life on stage.
In 2025, in partnership with Gasworks Arts Park, Melbourne Writers’ Theatre again presented the immersive playwriting program Gasworks Script Lab. In the Emerging stream, participants learned to write a short play from scratch. In the Experienced stream, participants were supported to strengthen their existing plays. Between July and September all writers attended Saturday afternoon workshops in the Art & Craft Studio at Gasworks Arts Park. Under the guidance of facilitators Clare Mendes (Emerging) and Laura Lethlean (Experienced), they discussed their scripts with their peers, workshopped them with actors, and then wrote a final draft in preparation for sharing these new works with the public.
Like to see what we created in Gasworks Script Lab this year? Keen to support new theatre? Whatever your interest, we warmly invite you to join us for the Showcase Night of your choice – or enjoy both nights, with the Double Showcase offer. These plays are original, bold and surprising, They explore an endless array of themes – love and dating, politics and power, technology and future worlds – guaranteeing a memorable evening of brand new theatre performed by talented local actors.
