Sincerely Sappho | Richard McCoy
Monday to Saturday: 10am - 4.30pm, Sunday: 10am - 3pm
Sincerely, Sappho, 2025, Video, 1m 26secs, looped
Wedged between cynicism and sincerity, this video work explores queer desire, and the sanitizing of queer creators in historical art. Composed as a conversation between two ageing same sex lovers and artists, the boundaries of identity, inspiration and legacy are confronted.
This video was previously exhibited at Brunswick Street Gallery, in 2025 as part of their Midsumma pride celebrations.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Melbourne based artist Richard McCoy thinks of his work as snapshots or inventories of fragmented lives. Often kitsch, with a consistent use of computer technology, his work explores the interrelation ships between change, time, reality and identity. He works across fashion, print design, photography and digital art with the aim of suggesting alternatives to how we see the past, reality, and the trans formative power of art.
ABOUT SCREENWORKS:
SCREENWORKS provides a dedicated screen space for video and moving-image work for Gasworks’ creative community. Each month a different work will be shown, celebrating the dynamism that screen-based media can offer.
