Dhungala Choral Connection Song Book Art Exhibition

For the first time, the complete Dhungala Choral Connection Song Book Art Collection is exhibited together, celebrating the profound relationship between First Nations music, language and visual art.

Created in response to the Dhungala Choral Connection Song Books, each artwork reflects a song written and composed by Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO and Jessica Hitchcock through the Short Black Opera for Kids program. Together, the books and artworks honour First Nations languages and the communities from which they emerge, revealing the enduring power of song as a vessel for culture, storytelling and connection to Country.

The exhibition invites visitors to experience the dialogue between sound and image, offering a rare opportunity to encounter the artworks alongside the songs that inspired them. Rich in cultural knowledge and artistic expression, the collection celebrates the beauty, diversity and resilience of Aboriginal languages, while highlighting the important role that creative practice plays in preserving and sharing living culture.

More than an exhibition, the Dhungala Choral Connection Song Book Art Collection is an invitation to listen, learn and deepen your appreciation of the world’s longest continuing living culture.
