In 2023 Gasworks Arts Park, in partnership with Melbourne Writers’ Theatre, launched the exciting new playwriting program Gasworks Script Lab. Bringing together a talented cohort of emerging and mid-career playwrights, Gasworks Script Lab aimed to strengthen participants’ playwriting skills while inspiring them to write brand new plays. 

Between July and September, the 18 writers attended immersive Saturday afternoon workshops in the Garden Studio at Gasworks Arts Park. Under the guidance of experienced MWT playwriting facilitators Elizabeth Walley and Michael Olsen, the writers created new short scripts and full-length scripts, which were shared with their peers, workshopped with actors and redrafted over a period of weeks to become compelling new plays. A selection of these will be shared with audiences in TWO Showcase events, to be presented at Gasworks Arts Park on Tuesday 24th October and Wednesday 25th October.
