Gasworks Script Lab Showcase Nights

Watch as the new plays written by talented playwrights in Gasworks Script Lab are brought to life on stage

In 2026, Melbourne Writers’ Theatre again partners with Gasworks to present the immersive playwriting program Gasworks Script Lab.

Under the guidance of Clare Mendes and Laura Lethlean, emerging and experienced writers have developed their scripts with their peers, workshopped them with directors and actors, and polished a final draft for a public showing.

At Showcase Night 1 on Monday 12^th October, we will present the brand-new short plays written by our Emerging playwrights.

Then at Showcase Night 2 on Tuesday 13^th October, we’ll present excerpts from the new full-length plays developed by our Experienced playwrights.

Come along to the Showcase Night of your choice or enjoy both for $40 with the Double Showcase deal.

These plays are original, bold and surprising. They explore an endless array of themes – love and dating, politics and power, entertainment and the environment, feuds, friendships and secrets – guaranteeing a memorable evening of brand-new theatre performed by talented local actors. The performances will again be led by 2025 directors Karyn Lee Greig (Showcase Night 1) and Cathy Hunt (Showcase Night 2).
