STEVE’s in emergency housing, Flat 33, stuck in Melbourne, yearning for his old job up at the mines in the Queensland sun. JON’s next door in Flat 32 and craving a home, security, safety. BELLE’s been in Flat 22 for years, wanting love, connection. Their relationships are building and they’re going quite well. Until the Government comes crashing into their lives, into their public housing.

Ros Varley writes plays and short stories in Melbourne/Naarm. As a member of Melbourne Writers Theatre. she developed HOME in Gasworks Script Lab 2023, and it has received further dramaturgy since then. In 2023 her short story ‘Ghosts’ was published in anthology ‘Out of the Shadows’, and in 2025 her monologues were performed in Metropolis Monologues and at the WOMPA Short Play Festival. She intends to publish a collection of her short stories, and to present her new play ‘Moving On’ in 2028. Compost and gardening and hands in the earth keep Ros connected to reality.
