Plant Dye & Painting
with Abbra Kotzlarkzyk
11am - 1pm
Using a range of seasonal flowers and other materials from the garden, we will learn how to make plant dyes. We will explore painting with the dyes onto various watercolour papers, and watch how they interact with flower stamps and wax and crayon rubbings made from our local surroundings.
Abbra Kotlarczyk is a guest on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country where she makes art and gardens with her two kids. Her artworks are often made from materials that she finds in her local surroundings, near to the Merri Merri Creek in Fawkner. This includes foraging for and grinding up flowers to make paints with, making charcoal drawing sticks from local willow tree branches and mark-making onto paper with clay soils in her backyard. In her work she likes to think about how the materials we use impact us and our environments, and how we might tread more lightly. @abbra_czyk
