RAW
- Carita Henriksson

August 11–30, 2026

Melbourne. Skyscrapers—shifting shapes and colours, full of quiet quirks. The souls who inhabit the city. There is a rawness to these works. They begin without a preconceived idea, evolving from a chaos of marks. From this, something starts to emerge—a suggestion of form. Perhaps a human presence, perhaps an architectural shape.

RAW is an exhibition of recent works by Carita Henriksson.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in Finland in 1946, Carita Henriksson showed an early passion for art—creating and selling ceramic portraits to classmates while still at primary school, a clear sign of her future path.

Henriksson migrated to Australia in 1966. After retiring in the early 2000s, she undertook four years of drawing studies, further developing her artistic practice. She later owned and operated a successful commercial art gallery in Albury–Wodonga.

Working across a range of mediums, Henriksson explores themes of the human form and abstraction. She divides her time between Flinders Island and a small apartment in Port Melbourne. The contrast between these environments inspires her work—the city sparking abstract interpretations of colourful, distorted skyscrapers, while both settings offer rich character to fuel her imagination.
