The Memory Mirror – presented for Gasworks’ OPEN STUDIO by Georgina Luck
On the last Monday of each month, Gasworks is giving our Studio Theatre over to the independent artists of Melbourne for OPEN STUDIO. Come and see the next generation of artists and works – first – at Gasworks. You never know where they will end up.
In a close-knit mountain town, a black cockatoo delivers a cryptic SOS message – forcing a traumatized paramedic to confront buried memories. Can he decode the plea for help, or will personal demons cloud his judgement and risk repeating history? Developed as part of Gasworks Script Lab 2024, ‘The Memory Mirror’ explores such weighty themes as trauma, memory loss and aging before championing the healing power of community. The stage play is inspired by admiration for the carers in our society, who dedicate their lives to helping others yet face some of the highest levels of trauma. Presented as a rehearsed reading, this development showcase offers an intimate first look at an exciting new play. Audiences are invited into the story at a rare and revealing stage of its creation.
