Valeria Benavides
A memory held in time before fading to silence
October 127, 2024
9:30am - 4:30pm
Valeria is a Textile Artist and Designer and has worked on a variety of handcrafted techniques and elements throughout her creative practice.

My inspiration comes from nature’s colours shapes, textures and the changing seasons, as well as the architecture found in the urban landscapes, the structures of old buildings, the juxtaposition of bricks, steel and glass. My compositions are an abstraction of all these elements.

In my current practice I use the Japanese Saori Weaving technique which principles of free expression and creativity resonate with my own personal approach to the creative process. This freedom of expression in the technique allows me to translate my vision of “close up” views of these differing forms and textures, by introducing different types of fibres, colours and other found elements to the composition to achieve a harmonious end textile.

As the technique allows for this freedom of expression, each resulting piece is unique ,and represents my vision and inspiration at the moment of its creation
