Threads is an evocative group art and theatrical exhibition that intricately weaves together a rich tapestry of textures, colours, and performances.

This exhibition serves as a convergence point, interconnecting a diverse spectrum of creative mediums to express our individual and collective relationships with the landscape, seasonal cycles, and elemental forces. Each artwork and performance in Threads offers a unique perspective, inviting viewers to explore the profound connections that bind us in the fabric of the natural world. Three artists weave together a tapestry of individual works, all interconnected through a love of natural beauty.

Mia Rappel is a practicing visual artist working primarily in collage, sculptural installation and digital storytelling. Her work aims to articulate through form, movement, texture and colour. In the Threads exhibition, Mia presents a series of textile sculptures and cyanotype collages. Her inspiration points begin with immersion in nature, absorbing the colours and textures, walking and allowing the land to sink in. For her sculpture using hand cutting and assemblage she works her gathered materials together, creating folds and patterns, dialogue between colours and textures. Slowly and steadily following the threads, forming these elements into dynamic collages.

Eamon Wyss is a fine art drone photographer based in Melbourne, Australia, with a strong fascination for the ephemeral nature of Australian salt lakes. He has developed a distinct creative style, in which he transforms natural landscapes into abstract imagery without manipulating the photographs from their original colour and form.  His work for this exhibition takes the transient phenomena of these photographs, with their intricate patterns and vivid hues, and then the images are digitally printed on high-quality silk. The result is a collection of scarves that have become ‘wearable art’, each telling a unique story of natural wonder and artistic innovation.

Madhu Henry is a movement and visual artist forever weaving the relationship between body and nature as a moving landscape in relation with the natural elements seasons and cycles. Her exhibition works spring from a profound appreciation for the interplay between nature’s patterns and the body as a moving ~ changing landscape through the cycles and seasons. An alchemy of time and space, matter and mystery is expressed to reveal the connectivity depth and beauty in the many threads present to our experiential living.

Threads will be sharing a live performance and installation as part of ‘Paint Out’ in the park on November 23 and 30 in the Garden Studio. Including: Madhu’s soundscape and ritual performance “Elements”, Eamon’s wearable art parade “Salt Lakes in Silk”, and Mia’s up-cycled textile sculptural installation “Blue”.
