Cara Kushlin

ARTIST STATEMENT

Cara Kushlin is an emerging ceramic artist with a background in theatre design.

Her work explores a combination of arcs, links and twisting planes and draws inspiration from both the natural and constructed world, Cara’s work concentrates on simple, large scale forms. Whilst guided by the material itself, pushing the boundaries of form and scale is where Cara has the most fun. Clay, in its raw form is weak and mouldable, but as it dries and hardens it offers up so many possibilities. It can be layered and joined, carved and hammered. Respecting and understanding this crucial stage is when Cara is most inspired.

Cara’s exhibitions include Companion Piece (2022) at Day Studio Melbourne, Held (2023) at Belco Arts Centre, Solo Show (2023) at Day Studio Gallery, Omnia Art Prize (2023), Form (2024) at Day Studio Gallery.
